Newhey Gardening Gang volunteers transform churchyard in latest community clean-up

A team of community volunteers has continued its work keeping a Newhey churchyard looking its best after another strong turnout for the local Gardening Gang.

Volunteers were back at work yesterday, tackling a substantial list of jobs across the churchyard and continuing the improvements made during previous sessions.

The group's 'buzzy bee strimmers' were out in force and completed the mammoth task of cutting all of the grass areas. Other volunteers weeded and cut back shrub beds and cremation plots, while a number of pathways were also cleared.

The work is part of an ongoing community effort to maintain and improve the churchyard, with local volunteers giving their own time to care for a space used by families, visitors and the wider Newhey community.

Organisers thanked everyone who took part, saying the churchyard continues to look great thanks to the efforts of the Gardening Gang.

Volunteer-led projects like this can make a significant difference to shared spaces, particularly where regular maintenance involves large areas of grass, established planting and paths which need repeated attention throughout the growing season.

The Gardening Gang is expected to announce another volunteering date, with residents being encouraged to watch for details of the next session.
