The event was advertised as featuring large fairground rides, live music, street food, and children's entertainment, but images released on Saturday morning depicted only a handful of gazebos outside the venue, with no large rides in sight.

The promotional artwork, generated by AI, depicted a vibrant scene with performers, balloons, and crowds, leading to comparisons on social media with Glasgow's infamous Willy Wonka experience, which faced similar criticism in 2024 for not meeting expectations. A Facebook page, Cameron Boland - Scam Event Watch & Awareness, has been vocal in its criticism of the Heywood event, alleging it was a scam and questioning the adequacy of security and entertainment arrangements.

Cameron Boland, the organiser, has been accused of mismanaging previous events, including a similar gala that was cancelled by Salford City Council and Greater Manchester Police in August. While the Facebook page has raised concerns about the gala's setup, including claims that performers were situated on a rug between tables, these allegations have not been independently verified. The photographs from the event do show activity taking place, but they do not provide a complete picture of what was available throughout the three-day event.

Kelly, the tenant and operator of The Pig and Whistle, defended the event, stating that it was still ongoing and that there were activities planned for the remainder of the weekend. The situation has raised questions about the expectations set by promotional materials versus the actual experience provided, highlighting the importance of transparency in event advertising.
