Norden residents report being without water since Friday morning as outage continues
Residents in Norden say they have been without water since around 9am on Friday, with households reporting an extended loss of supply and frustration over the apparent lack of an on-site response.

Residents in Norden are reporting that they have been without running water since around 9am on Friday, with the disruption continuing into Saturday and households asking when their supply will return.
Rochdale Daily has received reports from residents describing a prolonged loss of supply and saying they have seen no sign of United Utilities teams in their immediate area. At the time of publication, Rochdale Daily has not independently confirmed the cause, the precise number of properties affected or an estimated restoration time.
The length of the reported interruption is significant. United Utilities' published standards say that where a burst on one of its pipes causes an unexpected loss of supply, it aims to restore water within 12 hours. The company says that where it identifies that it has failed to restore supply within 12 hours, household customers should automatically receive £50, plus another £50 for each additional 12-hour period they remain without water. Eligibility will depend on the circumstances of the interruption and the company's standards.
WHAT SHOULD RESIDENTS DO?
Anyone still without water should report the problem directly to United Utilities, even if neighbours have already done so. Its 24-hour water and wastewater number is 0345 672 3723. Residents can also use the United Utilities website to check for active incidents affecting their postcode and report water-supply problems.
If neighbouring properties have water but yours does not, United Utilities advises carrying out basic household checks. The internal stop tap, commonly located beneath the kitchen sink, can be turned off and back on several times while the cold kitchen tap is running, which may clear an airlock or obstruction. If an entire street or neighbourhood is affected, the problem is more likely to be on the wider network and should be reported to the company.
Residents should keep a record of when their supply stopped, any reference numbers given by United Utilities, screenshots of incident updates and details of calls or messages. This may be useful if the interruption later qualifies for a standards-of-service payment or if a complaint needs to be escalated.
VULNERABLE RESIDENTS AND BOTTLED WATER
People who are older, disabled, have medical needs, mobility difficulties, young children at home or otherwise need additional support should tell United Utilities immediately and ask about its free Priority Services scheme.
United Utilities says that if water is likely to remain off for more than 12 hours it will try to make alternative supplies available in the affected area. Priority Services customers who cannot collect alternative supplies may be able to receive bottled water at home.
Priority Services can be contacted on 0345 072 6093. United Utilities' published Priority Services commitments also include bottled-water support during qualifying prolonged emergency interruptions, with enhanced arrangements for its most vulnerable customers.
Residents who rely on water for home dialysis or another essential medical treatment should make this clear when contacting the company rather than waiting for a general area update.
If United Utilities confirms an alternative bottled-water collection point, Rochdale Daily will add the location to this story.
WHAT ABOUT COMPENSATION?
United Utilities' current standards of service state that an unexpected mains interruption lasting beyond 12 hours can trigger an automatic £50 payment, followed by a further £50 for each additional 12-hour period without water where the relevant standard applies. Residents should therefore retain evidence of the duration of the outage and check subsequent bills or correspondence.
If an eligible payment is not made, customers can raise the matter directly with United Utilities through its complaints process.
Rochdale Daily has sought further information on the cause of the Norden disruption, the number of properties affected, what work is under way, whether alternative water supplies are being provided and when residents can expect normal service to return.
This is a developing story and will be updated as further verified information becomes available.
