Editorial standards

The framework every article we publish must meet — grounded in the law of England and Wales and the standards of the regulated UK press.

On this page: Accuracy · Crime & courts · Protected identities · Privacy & harm · Discrimination · Sources & attribution · Automation & AI · Advertising separation · Regulation

1. Accuracy

2. Crime and court reporting

Crime coverage carries the greatest capacity for harm and receives our strictest handling, in line with the law of England and Wales.

3. Protected identities

4. Privacy, grief and vulnerability

5. Discrimination

6. Sources and attribution

7. Automation and artificial intelligence

Rochdale Daily uses automated systems to gather source material and artificial intelligence to assist in drafting articles. That process is governed, not merely supervised:

8. Advertising and editorial separation

9. Regulation and complaints

Rochdale Daily is not currently a member of IPSO or Impress, the UK press regulators; as an independent publication we operate our own published complaints scheme and keep membership of an approved regulator under active review as the publication grows. Our standards are written to meet the substance of the Editors’ Code of Practice that governs the regulated UK press, and we hold ourselves to it whether or not a regulator is watching.

Anyone affected by our journalism can use our corrections and complaints procedure, which includes a right of reply for anyone directly referenced in coverage.
