Scout Moor II Wind Farm Plans Reduced Following Community Feedback

Developers have revised plans for the Scout Moor II wind farm, located on moorland between Rochdale and Rossendale, reducing the number of proposed turbines from 17 to 12. This decision follows feedback from local residents and organisations, aiming to address concerns raised during the initial consultation process.

The new wind farm will be situated adjacent to the existing Scout Moor wind farm, with each turbine potentially reaching heights of up to 590 feet (180 metres), making them taller than Blackpool Tower. The revised plans have been submitted to both Rochdale and Rossendale councils for further review and consultation before any approval is granted.

Campaign group Friends of the Moorland has expressed skepticism regarding the revisions, stating that it is unlikely all their concerns will be fully addressed. Steve Davison from the group indicated that a detailed review of the new plans is necessary to form a comprehensive opinion on the changes.

The initial proposals had attracted hundreds of objections, with opponents highlighting potential impacts on peatland, wildlife, and the surrounding landscape. The next steps will involve a further round of consultations, allowing the community to voice their opinions on the updated plans.
