Full house for National Emergency Briefing screening in Falinge

A community screening of the National Emergency Briefing attracted a full room in Falinge, with two Rochdale Council portfolio holders joining residents for the event and subsequent discussion.

Organisers have thanked everyone who attended the screening, saying it was encouraging to see such a strong turnout for the film and the conversation which followed.

Rochdale Borough Council portfolio holders Councillor Tricia Ayrton and Councillor Shah Wazir were among those attending.

Organisers thanked both councillors for remaining after the screening to listen to residents, take part in discussions and consider how the issues raised by the film could be discussed more widely.

They said the councillors left the event with a plan to help ensure the film and its message reach a broader audience.

The National Emergency Briefing brings together scientists, campaigners and public figures to discuss climate change and the risks they believe the UK faces, with contributors associated with the project including environmental campaigner Chris Packham.

The Falinge event gave residents an opportunity not only to watch the presentation together but to discuss its arguments and what they could mean at a local level.

Following the strong turnout, another community screening has already been arranged.

The next screening will take place on Thursday, September 4 at 6pm, giving residents who were unable to attend the latest event another opportunity to see the film and join the discussion.

Organisers thanked residents, guests and councillors for supporting the event and helping create what they described as an important community conversation.
