Rochdale Opens Fourth Children's Home 'Diamond' to Support Local Young People

Rochdale Borough Council has officially opened its fourth children's home, named 'Diamond', as part of a £3.4 million investment aimed at expanding residential care provision for children in the area. This new home will accommodate three children with complex needs and disabilities who come into care, providing them with a supportive and homely environment.

The Diamond home features a dedicated sensory room, designed to cater to the specific needs of its residents. This opening marks the completion of a quartet of new homes, which also includes 'Emerald', 'Sapphire', and 'Ruby'. The names were chosen following suggestions from children in care, reflecting their input in the development process.

Councillor Rachel Massey, cabinet member for children's services and education, expressed her delight at the opening, stating that the new home will significantly improve the lives of children and young people in need of support. The initiative aims to ensure that more children can remain within their local community rather than being placed in care far from home, which has been a growing concern for local councils across the country.

With the addition of Diamond, the total number of placements available across the four homes now stands at 12. This expansion comes at a crucial time, as local authorities continue to face challenges in finding suitable placements for children in care. The council's investment is intended to provide a warm and comforting environment for these vulnerable young people, helping them to thrive in a familiar setting.
